HHS Initiative to Accelerate Interoperability and HIE to Include HHAs

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently announced through the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology (HIT) its initiative for accelerating health information exchange (HIE) across a wide spectrum of providers in acute and long-term post-acute care (LTPAC) settings. Home health was included as one of these providers.

Positive future for health information exchange on the way?

Even with the increased adoption and meaningful use of EHR technologies, current attempts at healthcare reform will not avoid history repeating itself unless the EHR adopters participate in health information exchange (HIE). Otherwise, it is simply the condition of adding new solutions to those that came before them.
